Choosing those first baby essentials can feel a little overwhelming – with so many products to compare and advice flying in from every direction.
That’s why our team has pulled together some friendly, straightforward tips to make things just that bit easier for new parents. Remember, there’s no one right way – just the way that works best for you and your baby
- Our friends at Purflo have put together a really handy What to Wear guide. Remember though – every baby is different, just like us adults! There’s no true one-size-fits-all, but it’s a brilliant place to start.
- Room temperature matters: Keep baby’s room between 16–20°C for safe, comfortable sleep.
- Check mattress fit: Make sure the mattress is firm and fits snugly with no gaps around the sides.
- We recommend ALWAYS using a new mattress. If you are using a product from another child, a friend or relative or you’ve picked it up on marketplace, buy a new mattress, regardless of condition.

The Moses Basket VS The Bedside Crib!
Both are safe, cosy first beds – but the right choice for you and your family depends on your space, lifestyle and budget
The Moses Basket!

The Bedside Crib!

-
Portable: Lightweight and easy to carry, so you can keep baby close as you move around the house.
-
Cosy: Creates a snug, womb-like space that helps newborns feel safe and comforted – often leading to better rest.
-
Convenient: Perfect for naps in different rooms without needing to move a bulky cot.
-
Space-Saving: Compact and ideal for smaller nurseries or homes, taking up less space than a full-sized crib.
-
Easy Access: The moses basket stand is ideal, making lifting easier and reducing strain after birth.
-
Budget-Friendly: One of the most affordable first-bed options for newborns.
-
Night time Ease: Designed to sit right beside your bed, making night feeds and soothing much simpler.
-
Longer Use: Can last longer than a Moses basket – depending on baby.
-
Safe Sleep Setup: Allows baby to have their own safe space while still being within arm’s reach.
-
Adjustable: Many models have height options so they line up neatly with your mattress, or help if baby has colic.
-
Attachment Options: Some bedside cribs can securely attach to your bed, while others are freestanding — so you can pick the style that suits you best.
-
Sturdy & Spacious: Tend to be larger and more robust than Moses baskets, giving baby extra room to grow.
